From toilet roll to plant pot.

What do you do with your cardboard toilet roll tube when the paper has been used up? At worst you probably just throw it in the bin and at best you put in the recycle bin.

If you are a keen gardener then empty toilet roll tubes make excellent biodegradable plant pots. The same goes for empty kitchen roll or even tin foil tubes.

Just stand a few tubes upright in a seed tray and then fill them to just below the rim with your compost of choice. If the tube is too long then you can carefully cut it in half and make two little plant pots instead of one.

You can then either sow your seeds directly into the compost or transplant young plants into them to grow on. Once your plants are established you can plant them directly into the soil, the roots will grow through without any problem as the cardboard degrades.

Most garden centres sell biodegradable pots for garden use, so not only does this method save you money but it also helps the environment too
